IBBY Australia is proud to announce that four Australian titles have been chosen for the prestigious list Outstanding Books For Young People With Disabilities 2011. This list began in 1997 when the International Board on Books for Young People commenced a project which resulted in the selection of books from around the world that are currently available for young people with disabilities. Based in IBBY Documentation Centre of Books for Disabled Young People, Haug School and Resource Centre, Bekkestua, Norway this has resulted in the biennial publication of a catalogue and touring exhibition.
There will be a presentation of the 2011 list at the IBBY stand at the Bologna Book Fair 28-31st March. A number of titles were submitted by the Australian Section and Heidi Cortner Boisen of the IBBY Documentation Centre of Books for Disabled Young People has confirmed that four Australian titles were chosen. They are:
- I’ve Got a Feeling by Stephanie Owen Reeder (National Library of Australia)
- White Crane (book I of Samurai Kids series) by Sandy Fussell, illus Rhian Nest James (Walker Books Australia)
- My Silent World by Nette Hilton and Vincent Agostino (Lothian, Hachette Australia)
- The Glasshouse by Paul Collins, illus Jo Thompson (Ford Street Publishing)
We congratulate all our Australian authors, illustrators and publishers whose work will now be available to a worldwide audience. For further information please contact Robin Morrow or Jenni Woodroffe .
